Sudan protests at detention of nat'ls in Libya

KHARTOUM, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- The Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called in the Charge d'Affaires of Libyan Embassy in Khartoum in protest against the detention and torture and holding for ransom of Sudanese nationals in Libya.
Ali Moftah Al-Mahrouq was handed a protest note over the inhumane treatment of the Sudanese nationals in Libya, spokesman of the ministry Qaribullah Kheder said in a press release obtained by KUNA.
During the meeting, the Libyan diplomat expressed regret over "the shameful incidents, that have nothing to do with the moral values of the Libyan peoples," according to the spokesman.
The Libyan envoy blamed the incidents on lawless gangs that are active in areas outside the control of the Libyan government of national accord.
He promised to convey Sudan's message to his government, the spokesman added, noting that Sudan Embassy in Tripoli is in contact with the Libyan authorities to ensure safe release of the captives. (end) mmm.gb
