South Dakota independent Senate candidate weighs in on Iran-Israel situation
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Independent U.S. Senate candidate and former Air Force Lt. Col. Brian Bengs is weighing in on the strikes between Israel and Iran.
Bengs says he believes the U.S. will suffer repercussions for Israel’s initial strikes on Iran.
“I think Iran has already said we are partially responsible, and to an extent we are partially responsible in the sense that we are the primary weapons source for Israel,” explained Bengs. “They get their aircraft, I believe it was 200 aircraft I heard were used in this strike, they’re probably almost all going to be American aircraft,” said Bengs.
Bengs says Israel did not have the legal grounds to make the airstrikes which in part targeted nuclear sites. He says the strikes set a bad precedent.
Sen. Mike Rounds also responded to the situation; releasing this statement:
“Iran has been financing Hamas terrorists for decades, in addition to supplying them with materials and training their forces. It’s no secret that Iran wants to see Israel wiped off the map. Their missile strikes today confirm that. In addition, this Iranian regime has clearly been preparing to make nuclear weapons for years. Their only purpose was to threaten Israel and the United States. They were doing this while pretending to negotiate in good faith. Time to call it what it is.
“Our allies in Israel have determined that their strikes on Iran last night were a necessary step in defending their nation against those that wish to see it decimated. We stand with our friends and allies during this time. We also continue to pray for all of our U.S. troops who are stationed in the region,” Rounds said.
