The Vatican Is Investigating Pope Francis’ Instagram Account, After Liking A Provocative Photo

This article is more than 3 years old.

Pope Francis’ official Instagram account raised eyebrows last week, after liking a photo of a scantily-clad Brazilian model, whose backside is bursting out of her schoolgirl outfit.

But the hilarious slip-up didn’t come from the Holy Father himself—Pope Francis’ account is reportedly run by a team of employees, none of whom have admitted to liking the provocative picture (at least, not enough to give it the official Vatican thumbs-up).

In a statement to the Guardian, a Vatican spokesperson claimed:

“We can exclude that the ‘like’ came from the Holy See, and it has turned to Instagram for explanations.”

Natalia Garibotto, the model whose voluptuous curves managed to impress the Holiest of Instagram influencers, seems to have taken the like as the highest possible compliment, and has (rightfully) taken the opportunity to market herself, and make light of the situation.

On Twitter, Garibotto jokingly claimed that her admission to heaven is now a certainty, and that she is on her way to the Vatican:

COY Co, Garibotto’s management company, made sure to repost the scandalous screenshot on its own Instagram account, writing that the company had “received the POPE’S OFFICIAL BLESSING”.

This might be the most wholesome controversy the Vatican has ever been involved in -  if anything is going to humanize God's Representative on Earth, it’s being inappropriately horny on social media.
